Read What 1 Client is Saying About Reagan L. Guthrie - A Tax Professional from Tucson AZ

August 19, 2014
I first met Reagan back in April of 2011 after a mutual friend recommended her to me. I had just returned from a 6-month deployment to Africa and I realized that my tax situation had become complicated enough to warrant hiring a CPA rather than trying to figure it out myself. Back then Reagan worked at Yunk & Gunthrie CPAs, PLLC at 2016 E. Broadway Blvd in Tucson, AZ and she seemed competent enough so I hired her to do my 2010 taxes. I provided her all my tax forms and required information and eventually she did get my returns processed in August of 2011. That was later than I would have preferred, but I had an authorized filing extension and the IRS accepted the forms with no questions. Throughout the process Reagan seemed friendly enough, but also somewhat detached and she delegated a lot of the work to another employee whom I assumed was one of her subordinates. This pattern continued when I hired her to do my 2011 and 2012 taxes. Whenever I called or stopped by her office she seemed distracted and was quick to pawn me off on one of the other employees. Despite all this, my tax returns were going through without errors or questions from the IRS so I didn’t complain. In August of 2013, I moved to Bloomington, IN and when tax season came, I thought I would stick with her even though I now lived in another state. That was when I found out through our mutual friend that she had had an ugly split from her partners at Yunk & Guthrie and that she was now working independently. I considered just hiring her former business which would have been the safest thing to do, but ultimately I decided to stay loyal to her since she seemed to have done good work for me before. It was a big mistake. In April of 2014, I hired her to do my 2013 tax return and sent her all my tax forms and supporting information. Nearly a month went by and I did not hear back from her. Eventually, I sent a follow-up e-mail asking for a status update and she sent me a terse response stating that she had my tax documents prepared, but was having technical difficulties with her e-mail. She assured me they would be fixed soon so I waited another week and still did not hear back from her. On 16 June, I sent another e-mail requesting that she just send me the tax forms via USPS. She replied stating that she would get them in the mail that day and that she would send me the tracking number. I waited 10 days, but received nothing so I sent another follow-up e-mail on 26 June. Five days later she finally responded stating that the package had been returned to her because it had been damaged by the USPS. She promised to send it via FedEx the next morning, but I never received anything. From this point forward she never responded to another e-mail and did not return any of my phone calls. One time I did reach her on her cell phone and she gave me an excuse about being stretched too thin and promised to make it up to me. That was the last time she ever answered her cell phone because all of my future attempts went to her voice mail. Overall I counted that I had sent her nine e-mails in 2014 and she responded four times. I also called her 15 times during that period and she never called me even once. I have all the phone and e-mail records to back these numbers up. I realize that this review has gotten quite wordy, but I thought it was important to be clear on this. Reagan let me down by leaving me twisting in the wind for almost four months without explanation. There is simply no good reason for this as I told her multiple times that I could be flexible if she had a busy schedule. I even offered to let her off the hook if she couldn’t help me, but she didn’t even have the courtesy to tell me that she was dropping me as a client. I think I’m a pretty reasonable person, but one thing I will not tolerate is someone who refuses to communicate with me. Our mutual friend told me that Reagan is still communicating with other clients so I can only assume that her problem with me is personal. I sincerely hope that this isn’t some kind of anti-military bigotry. I’ve served my country now for 17+ years and been deployed to two combat zones. This is the worst I’ve ever been treated by a professional in any field. To sum this up, I would not recommend Reagan to anyone. The frustration of dealing with someone who is intentionally ignoring e-mails and dodging phone calls is difficult to describe. I think her former partners were wise to part ways with her.
