This accountant and firm are the absolute worst!!! They did NOT file my taxes in a timely manner on at least two separate occasions. I found out about their inattentiveness AFTER the IRS sent letters to my home notifying me that previous returns from several years ago were never received. The accountant never reached out to me to tell me about this! In fact, the IRS letter was my first and only notification. To make matters worse, when I called, the accountant acted like it was my problem, and to a certain extent - he’s right, I chose to use this company to file my taxes. What a mistake! I ended up having to manually file at least one tax return to the IRS (that was supposedly sent several years ago). Lesson learned. I should have vetted Jason Gallus and his firm before using them. They have proven to be extremely unprofessional, untrustworthy, and VERY neglectful.

On the recommendation of my aunt, who used Jason Gallus for tax preparation in 2012, I had her take my documents (W-2, etc) to Mr. Gallus for him to prepare my 2013 tax return. It was the weekend before 4/15 and he advised us that if he wasn't able to get to it, he would file an extension and take care of it after the fact. This was fine. I had realized that there were some notes/additional documentation that I wanted to share with Mr. Gallus so I emailed him. He never responded to any of the emails or acknowledged that he received them...for months. Spring passed and in the summer, I asked my aunt to inquire again for an update on our tax returns, since he was not responding to me directly. He provided some excuses of a personal nature (got married, out of the country) and said he would do it that week, then several more weeks passed with no word from him. I finally asked my aunt to simply find out when I could retrieve my documents from him so I could have my taxes done elsewhere because, unfortunately, in the scramble to get him the paperwork in April, I had failed to make my own copies. He told her they would be available to be picked up on August 25th. Several more weeks pass and I realize we are approaching the extension deadline (10/15), so I decide to cut out the middleman and reach out to Mr. Gallus again. He finally replied and told me the documents would be available on 9/29. As I start out towards his office, during my lunch hour, I decide to email him to let him know I was on the way. He replied and told me that he was not in the Brooklyn office but was in Staten Island, due to a client emergency. Then, he says, he will put them in the mail for me. A few more weeks pass and nothing appears in my mailbox. I keep inquiring, sometimes with no bother of a response. He finally calls me on 10/10 and it is clear that, much to my chagrin, he has already begun to prepare my return. He hurriedly reviews some information with me and says the taxes will be ready to be picked up on 10/13. And for this inconvenience (the wasting of my time, the delay in my tax return which meant a 6 month delay in my sizable refund, failing to comply with the request to simply return my documents, the unresponsiveness and complete lack of professionalism), he charged $300. Ultimately, my aunt picked up the return and paid for me, so I have no choice but to reimburse her but I must say that it is not often that one experiences this level of disrespect from a so-called professional.
