Chozan began his professional career after serving the U.S. Navy for eight and a half years. He served in the first Gulf war, Desert Storm in 1990. Chozan was honored throughout his military career for his duties and responsibilities which led to him earning Sailor of the Quarter, Sailor of the Squadron (7 ships), and nominated for Sailor of the Year, all within the 2nd year of Naval service.
After his service ended in late 1993, and just before graduating in June of 1994 with his Bachelors of Science in both Accounting & Finance, Chozan formed BEHN & Associates which was a boutique tax and accounting firm in San Diego, CA. He was able to win a large contract from the Navy Exchange system to provide tax preparation on base after beating out H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and another company that bided on the same contract.
After 13 years of owning his own firm, Chozan received an opportunity to work with many companies over the following 20 years in order to have more time to raise his family. Among those companies was 99 cents Only Stores as the Interim Tax Manager. When Chozan took over that position the company was going through 3 major sales and use tax audits with a potential tax liability including interest and penalties of over $3 mil. Under Chozan’s leadership, he was able to save the company over $2.7 mil by the time all 3 audits were finalized.
While at PMC Global, Chozan was promoted to Assistant Tax Manager after a short time upon assuming the role of State and Local Tax Manager (SALT). In his role as Assistant Tax Manager, Chozan was responsible for the coordination of work for subordinate staff and taking the lead on overseeing the international tax team for 5471, 8865 and Subpart F reporting.
Chozan continued his work with international tax when he worked for Fox Entertainment as part of their international tax team. After that contract ended, Chozan worked as the Tax Manager for a regional transportation company which required coordination of source data spanning many jurisdictions and multiple federal and state filings without ever incurring any late fees, penalties or interest.
More recently, Chozan served as the sole person responsible for managing the sales tax function for commercial leasing at Toyota Financial Services, where he wrote the reference guides, established policy and procedures for that department, as well as managed the software updates for state and local sales tax rates for nearly all 50 states and multiple local jurisdictions nationally.
Chozan was sought after and hand selected for his role at PricewaterhouseCoopers. As a Senior Associate, he led an engagement team for high-level real estate and investment partnership clients, making him responsible for managing 6-7 junior associates and over 3 to 4 clients which required tax preparation, review and processing over 180 tax returns per quarter!
Recently Chozan with two of his business partners formed and launched a full business to business company to provide loans for capital that will companies to expand and prosper. Capital Lending Group, LLC has already committed to providing $80 mil. in loans within the first 30 days of formation!
